Rowan Baseball is now 25-5 on the year after the team collided with Immaculata on Tuesday and knocked off the Mighty Macs, 14-4, in seven innings at the Rowan Baseball Field. Rowan’s sidearmer, Charlie Russell, got the win for the Profs, with Sebastian McNab on the other side.
The Mighty Macs were 13-16 coming into Tuesday afternoon’s non-conference matchup.
The Rowan offense couldn’t be stopped after Nick Struble started the scoring off with an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning. He finished with three hits to reach the 100th hit of his career against the Mighty Macs.
“Really, the situation, if it’s a guy that I think I can drive, I know who’s not gonna beat me,” Struble said. “I’ll try to put one in the gap early in the count. And if it’s a guy that’s got more lights out stuff, I’ll try to go early in the count, hit a single and get on for the guys.”
Damon Suriani finished the day going 2-for-4 while both Murphy and Struble had three hits on the day.
Ian Murphy and Jason Schooley provided two more runs in the bottom of the first to put the Profs ahead, 3-0. Starting pitcher Miles DeVincentis pitched a scoreless first inning and paved the way for the Profs to score two more runs in the second inning. Evan McCoach hit a two run home run to extend the lead to, 5-0. Immaculata struck back with a single from Alex Tronosky and two sacrifices off of AJ Maddalena.
Rowan then scored three more runs in both the bottom of the third and fourth innings. Struble and Murphy provided some insurance runs and put the home team up, 7-3. The offense fired on all cylinders, which is what excites head coach Mike Dickson the most about his squad.
“You want to be able to win in all phases of the game and we came out from inning one able to put some swings on the ball,” Dickson said. “We talk about two out hits all the time. So as long as we pitch and play defense, and we kindly hit, we’re going to be tough to beat.”
Rowan was certainly tough to beat today as they added six more runs in the last three innings. In the bottom of the fifth, Suriani singled to score Joey Bogart, who was eventually removed from the game in place of Kevin Cole. Struble singled, which scored Suriani. In the sixth, Brayden Davis doubled, scoring Suriani, Bogart, and Brett Chiesa.
Rowan will try to stay hot at the plate when they travel to Jersey City to take on NJCU on Thursday.
