WILMINGTON, Del. — The Wilmington Blue Rocks walked away defeated in the third game of the series against the Asheville Tourists on Thursday and suffered a, 9-3, loss at Frawley Stadium.
Hopes were high going into Game 3. With an aggressive offense, the Blue Rocks dominated the Tourists, 10-2, in Game 1 and, 11-6, in Game 2. Despite the two consecutive wins, the couldn’t keep up with the Tourists in game three.
Pitcher Josh Randall started on the mound for the Blue Rocks and gave up no hits in the first inning. The Tourists put their foot to the gas in the second and batted in two runs. Randall went on to give up three runs in the five innings he appeared in.
The other Blue Rocks pitchers that took the mound also saw little luck. Eiker Huiz gave up three hits and brought in one run in the sixth and seventh inning. Julian Tonghini’s pitching looked hopeful in the eighth inning after he gave up no hits, but the 24-year-old went on to give up two hits and four runners batted in during the ninth. Yeuris Jimenez closed off the night with one hit and one runner batted in.
The pitchers weren’t the only ones who couldn’t get their footing in Thursday’s game. The team accumulated seven hits throughout the night, two of them being doubles, but Wilmington couldn’t get a run on the board until the ninth inning. The Blue Rocks were able to put together three runs in the final inning, but it didn’t compare to the Tourists’ nine.
The Blue Rocks will fight to get another win to their record on Friday in the fourth game of the series against the Asheville Tourists.
