Outfielder Yeremy Cabrera was promoted to High-A Wilmington on Monday. Cabrera, the No. 21 prospect in the Nationals system, was part of the Nationals’ Mackenzie Gore trade in February.
The trade has revitalized the Nats farm system and Cabrera is part of that transformation. The 20 year-old, a native of the Dominican Republic was signed straight out of the D.R. for just $10,000 by the Texas Rangers in 2022.
Cabrera has destroyed Carolina League pitching to start the 2026 season, hitting .333 with a .465 OBP, and a 1.114 OPS from the left handed batters box. Cabrera also crushed a Carolina League best seven homers and stole 18 bases to earn a spot with the Blue Rocks .
During the 2025 season in the Carolina League with the Hickory Crawdads, Cabrera hit .256, got on base at a .364 rate, and a .730 OPS. His numbers were pretty good for a 19 year-old in his first Single-A season. This year Cabrera has made an unprecedented leap offensively.
Cabrera, mainly viewed by scouts as a defense-first player, now fills an important role after Elijah Nunez got called up to Double-A Harrisburg. He joins an outfield with former top prospects Christhian Vaquero, Elijah Green, and T.J. White. Cabrera now is expected to play left field but he can also play center, and right field if need be.
Cabrera is the sixth top 30 prospect on the Blue Rocks roster and is expected to make his first appearance on Tuesday against the Winston Salem Dash.
