In a battle between Gods, monsters, and mortals, who wins?

In “Thor: Ragnarok,” we see Thor, the God of Thunder, Hela, the Goddess of Death, Surtur, a giant flame demon, the Incredible Hulk, and others battle for dominance.

“Thor: Ragnarok” takes place 2 years after “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” and we see Thor transported to the planet Sakaar, where he is forced to compete in a gladiatorial contest called the ‘Contest of Champions.’ During his time on Sakaar, Thor must fight against his friend and ally the Hulk, and deal with the planet’s ruler, the Grandmaster. While all of this is going on, Thor must find a way back home and stop Hela and Ragnarok, the prophesied end of Asgard.

The battle between Thor and the Hulk is amazing. On Sakaar, the Hulk is a champion and relishes in the love the people show him. As a result of this, the Hulk goes all out against Thor to remain champion. Also, during the battle, we see Thor fight the Hulk without his magical hammer Mjolnir and we truly see why Thor is called the God of Thunder.

Other battles include Thor’s fight against Surtur and Hela’s battle for control of Asgard.

Another area touched upon is Thor’s relationship with the Hulk outside of the battle arena as they debate who is stronger. His relationship with his brother Loki is explored further in this new film.

Other characters include the rock giant Korg and his insect buddy Meik.

The conversations between Thor, Korg, the Hulk, and Valkyrie are, at times, hilarious. In one scene, we see Thor attempt to break a window with a ball, only for the ball to bounce back and knock him down. After being knocked down, Thor stands up and says, “I meant to do that.”

Battles and comedy aside, the performance of Cate Blanchett, who plays Hela, is spot on. Blanchett takes the role of Hela quite seriously with her relishing in the fact that she’s the Goddess of Death. As such, she kills and destroys all that stands in her way.

For Tessa Thompson, who plays Valkyrie, her performance was just as stellar, showing that her fighting abilities are equal to Thor.

The sounds and graphics were also wonderful. Throughout the film, the sounds add to a sense of excitement and foreboding. As for the graphics, they expertly displayed the weird and exotic setting of the film. 

For Marvel fans and fans of Thor, “Thor: Ragnarok” is a must-see sequel.
