Shocking video shows a fatal crash on Route 55 that killed two people on the morning of Thursday, Sept. 5, in Mantua Township, New Jersey.
The accident happened at mile marker 51.8 just before 9 a.m.
According to New Jersey State Police, 62-year-old Stanley Kahana of Philadelphia was driving his Jeep Compass southbound on Route 55 before crossing the northbound lanes at an unknown location.
He traveled the wrong way down Route 55 before colliding head-on with a Toyota Rav 4, driven by 53-year-old Jennifer Hufnell of Deptford, N.J.
Both Kahana and Hufnell were killed in the crash.
Photos from 6abc News show one of the cars flipped over in the median with significant frontal damage. The second, which also bears notable damage, can be seen on its side on the shoulder of the highway.
The Toyota also caught fire after the collision, according to Police.
As a result of the crash, Route 55 North was closed between Exit 48 (Ellis Street, Glassboro) and Exit 53 (Woodbury-Glassboro Road) according to Gloucester County Emergency Management. The county emergency department estimated the northbound route would be closed for four to six hours following the crash, causing significant traffic delays for the rest of the afternoon and the evening rush.
“Route 55 Northbound is closed between Exit 48- Ellis St., Glassboro and Exit 53 Woodbury-Glassboro Rd in Mantua Twp. for an estimated 4-6 hours due to New Jersey State Police’s ongoing investigation of a multi-vehicle accident with reported fatalities,” their statement read. “Please exercise caution and, if possible, consider using alternate routes.”
An investigation into the circumstances of the crash is still ongoing.

Was this a suicide ? Seems the man driving on wrong side of 55 had total control of his car , very unlikely that he lost control .
