After months of anticipation, Insomnia Cookies finally opened its location on Rowan Boulevard. They celebrated their grand opening in Glassboro on April 26, though they actually had a soft opening a few weeks prior.
Insomnia Cookies is a popular cookie brand that prides itself on making warm, fresh cookies quickly and efficiently, with customers able to either walk into the store and order themselves or have their delicious baked goods brought straight to their doorsteps in an orderly fashion. Though a cookie store already exists on Rowan Boulevard in the form of the Rowan alumni-founded Cookie Munchers, Insomnia Cookies is looking to make their own mark in the Glassboro cookie game.
Located between Yogo Factory and Oishii Ramen, customers of Insomnia Cookies will be able to access the store seven days a week, with the store staying open until 1:00 a.m. on Sundays through Wednesdays and until 3:00 a.m. on Thursdays through Saturdays.
Brandon Kainz, the assistant general manager of Insomnia Cookies’ Glassboro location, said he wanted to cater to college students while they were students. After all, the idea of Insomnia Cookies came to fruition in 2003 by founder Seth Berkowitz in his dorm room at the University of Pennsylvania.
“The goal of Insomnia Cookies is to serve the needs of college students. While they are studying, they can get a cookie,” said Kainz.
Insomnia Cookies offers a variety of different cookie flavors, ranging from classic chocolate-chunk and snickerdoodle to limited-time only products such as lemon white chocolate and strawberry lemonade. Patrons can also order two different sizes of cookie: classic or deluxe.
The store also offers other sweet treats such as brownies, ice cream, ice cream sandwiches, and cookie cakes.
There are currently five Insomnia Cookies locations in the state, though the major cookie chain has over 200 locations across the country, the first brick and mortar store opening in 2006 in Syracuse, NY.
“Hoboken was the first New Jersey location,” said Kainz. “A couple of years later, we opened a location in Ewing near the TCNJ campus. After the success of the first two locations, we decided to open a location in New Brunswick right on the campus of Rutgers University. We started to think about opening a location in South Jersey. We decided to open a location in Cherry Hill in 2014. And finally, the company decided to open a location on Rowan Boulevard in Glassboro.”
