The Super Bowl remains one of the biggest sporting events in America each year. Whether fans tune in for the game itself, the commercials, or the halftime show, the event brings people together across the country.
This year’s matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots sparked plenty of debate on Rowan University’s campus as students shared their picks and the personal reasons behind them.
Sreyas Sai, a junior biomedical engineering major, supported the New England Patriots during Super Bowl LX. Sai recounts the franchise’s championship history and desire to see the team return to glory.
“I want the Patriots to win the Super Bowl since they haven’t won one since Tom Brady,” Sai said.
Sebastian Keese, a freshman public relations major, also rooted for the Patriots, but for a different reason. Keese has been following the team because of his connection to the city. Keese shows how geographic loyalty can influence fans’ allegiances.
“I want the Patriots to win because I like the region of New England,” Keese said.
On the other side, Tyler Jeliff, a freshman exercise science major, backed the winning team, the Seattle Seahawks. His rivalry-driven perspective highlights how past history can shape present fandom.
“Growing up as a Giants fan, I hated the New England Patriots since they always cheated,” Jeliff said. “I really want the Seahawks to win the Super Bowl.”
Joseph Tannious, a junior biological sciences major, added another layer of rivalry to the discussion.
“Growing up as a San Francisco 49ers fan, I want the Patriots to win,” Tannious said. “I don’t want our divisional rival, the Seahawks, winning the Super Bowl—especially after they knocked out the 49ers 41–6 in the divisional playoffs.”
Despite mixed opinions before kickoff, many students were satisfied with the outcome. While Super Bowl 60 featured a defensive battle in the first half, the game still gave Rowan students plenty to talk about long after the final whistle.
