Rowan Women’s Swimming dropped their Dec. 5 meet, 113-73, to Swarthmore at the Tony Lisa Natatorium in Glassboro. The meet against No. 14-ranked Swarthmore included events like co-ed relays with the men’s team and sprint relays.
“We’re not really preparing for any big meets in December,” head coach Elise Fisher said. “So we figured, ‘How do we still get our team to get up and race and have a good time with finals looming over their heads?’ As well as the holidays and eagerness to get home, I’m sure every student feels that.”
Senior Ella Pennington claimed her fourth individual school record in the 200 Free, turning in a 1:54.12 to break Jordan McChesney’s record in 2023.
“Breaking a record in a dual meet, to me, is just bonkers,” Fisher said.
Another senior, Trisha Lau, swam the 100 breaststroke for the first time since her days swimming at Marlboro High School. She swam four seconds better now, setting her personal best time.
“It was just really fun to see how much I’ve improved over my college career, without even making that a complete focus,” Lau said. “So it was really nice to kind of have this new, sort of a sprint meet. We even did events that aren’t normally in the lineup. I did the 100 [Individual Medley]. I was really excited to do that.”
In the 100 breaststroke, Rhylee Cornell finished in first, with her time of 1:09.03.
The team is now past the midway point in the year and will have a break until Jan. 16. The Profs get into meet action again on Jan. 16 and 17 against The College of New Jersey (TCNJ).
“I think truthfully, when I look at the results from last Friday, the past couple years, we’ve had the same Friday night meet, same week of our season. This is by far the best we’ve performed,” Fisher said. “That is really exciting to me because it means the training that we are doing is working. And that the athlete’s mindsets are in the right spot.”
