Rowan Athletics announced the renovations to the Esbjornson Gymnasium weight room will be completed this summer. These renovations will accommodate student-athletes as the athletic programs continue to grow and take on more students.
“I think that the transformation is a significant investment in the health, performance, and overall experience for student athletes,” said Gabrielle Lisella, associate director of athletics at Rowan. “We’re reimagining a space that was no longer useful to meet the needs of a modern athletic program.”
Construction began in September 2024. The development cost was around six million dollars and is set to finish by this upcoming summer. The design consultants on the project are NK Architects, and the construction will be done by Tester Construction Group, the consultants who ultimately won the bid for the room. The construction began in October of last year.
The weight room will be over 15,000 square feet, capable of hosting multiple programs at a time for workouts, as well as new office spaces for staff and coaches, and a nutrition station. Head Strength and Conditioning Coach Jordan Downes is running the program.
“To see our strength and conditioning program evolve from coaches running it, to actually having a space, and now to having a dedicated space with a full-time strength and conditioning coach is just an amazing progression,” said Kim Wilson, Rowan Softball head coach. “I think we’re doing it first class and we’ve got great people involved in the program.”
