The Profs have continued their solid indoor track campaign with a great team performance this past weekend which has firmly ranked them Top 5 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Atlantic Region.
Some of the team’s strong areas has been the 4×400 meter relay, 400 meter dash and 500 meter dash, in which they are ranked Top 5 in those categories.
Junior sprinter Vincent Delle has a lot to do with that success. He finished third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.29 earlier this season at Franklin and Marshall College. Delle’s personal bests are 50.54 in the 400 meter dash and 1:24.90 in the 600 meter dash.
It’s tough to have success in these areas but for Delle, it only takes one key aspect to his success.
“Practice,” Delle said. “Just working hard and being consistent.”
With the Profs consistently moving up the rankings after each meet, Delle is mainly focused on getting better each and every day to reach the ultimate goal at the end of the season.
“In the grand scheme, we’re trying to win nationals,” Delle said. “That’s the ultimate motivation. We want to get the ring.”
Having the passion to win the way Delle does sometimes comes with some growing pains throughout the season. Instead of letting it bring him down and effect his confidence, he uses it as fuel to be better for the next time around.
“When we go to the meet and I don’t place well, I just keep training and try to get better,” Delle said.
Delle is one of the veterans on the team and has had some great success in the past.
From taking first place in the 4×400 meter dash last season at Ithaca College Bomber Invitational to once running a time of 49.94 and finishing third at the Fasttrack National Invitational, Delle has always been a big contributor for this team. This season has just been a continuation of that.
“He’s coming along strong here for New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC),” Head Coach Dustin Dimit said. “We expect him to do big things in the 500 [meter run] and help us capture the conference title.”
The NJAC Championships will be taking place on Monday, Feb. 24 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, New York. The Profs are looking to repeat as champions and Delle wants to contribute the best way he can so that can happen.
