The Rowan University men’s indoor track and field team claimed their tenth straight New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Indoor Championship this past weekend at the NJAC Championship at Penn’s Ott Center.
The Profs captured the title scoring 278 points. TCNJ was second with 175 points and Stockton finished third with 65.
Head coach Dustin Dimit is extremely blessed to be the head coach for the team as they claimed the title.
“ I’m really proud of the culture that’s here,” said Dimit. “We’ve been able to develop, that these guys have bought into, and in this group in particular, because they’ve, you know, they put in the work to get better, and it’s a family-like atmosphere.”
The Profs were led by freshman, Rajahn Dixon who won two events. He was able to break his own record from the Valentine Invitational in the 200 meters with a first-place time of 21.34. Dixon also placed first in the 400 meters with a time of 48.15.
“ I never gave up on myself, I never stopped believing in myself,” said Dixon. “But I needed, like, some real, focus and drive.”
Rowan took home first place in the high jumps as sophomore, Jamile Gantt won his first career conference title with a time of 2.03 meters. Gantt is pleased that he placed first after finishing short last season.
“ I was happy because last year I actually placed third,” said Gantt. “This year coming back, placing first just felt a lot better.”
Last week, the NJAC Track Athlete of the Week was freshman, Jamir Brown. He finished first in the 60 meters (7.94) and was blessed that he won it for the team.
“ I was happy, but I was more happy that I won it for the team, you know, because at the end of the day, we’re trying to win as a team,” said Brown.
The men’s 4×200 relay set a Divison III record on Saturday by senior Robert McKinney, Dixon, junior Masai Byrd, and sophomore Elijah Hendricks (1:25.45). The record was originally held by Rowan Jah’mere Beasley, Amara Conte, Evan Corcoran, and senior Nana Agyemang.
“ It was surreal because me and my teammates, we knew we can do it, but it wasn’t the main focus,” said Byrd. “We just went out there and executed.”
The Profs are back in action this Friday at the Fasttrack Last Chance Meet at the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island, NY.
