Two months ago, it was announced that The Pierogie Place on Rowan Boulevard had permanently closed their doors, and in its place was going to be a new location of the plant-based restaurant chain known as Greens and Grains.
This past Monday, Nov. 17, Greens and Grains officially opened its doors in Glassboro, New Jersey, welcoming Rowan students and town residents with fresh smoothies, freshly juiced juices, smoothie bowls, and several vegetarian food options such as sandwiches, wraps, and salads. The location also held a soft opening a day earlier, on Sunday, Nov. 16, where all customers were given a 25% discount to celebrate their first day.
The interior of the restaurant has been decorated with hanging lights, green foliage, and signage, along with ambient music playing softly throughout.
Greens and Grains’ mission statement is to revolutionize the restaurant industry by making fast and fresh plant-based food accessible to all.
Rashad Hemingway, one of the chefs at Greens and Grains, was ecstatic for the restaurant to finally be open and can’t wait to see the level of success that it finds.
“To be successful,” said Hemingway, “You have to have your heart in your business and your business in your heart.”
In addition to the new Glassboro spot, Greens and Grains has locations in Ventnor City, Cape May Court House, Northfield, Mays Landing, Stone Harbor, Voorhees, Cherry Hill, Shrewsbury, Wall Township, and at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Greens and Grains also has plans to open around 10 to 15 new locations across the Mid-Atlantic Region over the span of the next couple of years.
Jacob Cline, a freshman music industry major, had some thoughts on the new location opening up.
“I think it’s a refreshing place to have near campus,” said Cline, “If I want to put food in my stomach and not feel bad about it, I think it’s the place to go.”
Greens and Grains also offers breakfast options for students on the way to their morning classes, including plant-based scramble bowls, breakfast tacos, and avocado toast. There are also various types of pita sandwiches, wraps, and other hearty food items.
“Us having a Greens and Grains is good for the students here,” said Jaedon Everett, a freshman football player majoring in psychology. “It’ll give them a new opportunity to eat a different, wider variety of food.”
With several new healthy foods, beverages, and other goods to provide to the Rowan and Glassboro communities, the addition of Greens and Grains to the already broad variety of restaurants on Rowan Boulevard shows plenty of promise.
