Rowan pushes their win streak to four on Friday, Jan. 24, defeating the University of Delaware Blue Hens, 4-0, at the Fred Rust Ice Arena in Delaware. The Profs now improve to 19 wins on the season.
“We’re just a team that could battle back through adversity,” freshman defenseman Domenic Riccardi said.
Riccardi contributed to an assist against the Blue Hens, helping sophomore assistant captain and center put one behind the goalie’s pads. Riccardi has recorded three assists in the last two games.
In a similar fashion to the last game, the Profs capitalized in the second period, putting three past Delaware.
One of those goals came from freshman defenseman Dmitry Thompson, who collected his first goal of the year.
Thompson fired an initial shot that was turned aside, but the rebound came right back to him, and he fired it in.
“I was feeling great, I needed to get the monkey off my back,” Thompson said. “All the guys were loving it.”
Rowan continued to play shutdown defense on the penalty kill, as they are now eight-for-eight in their last two games on the penalty kill.
“Biggest thing is we all communicate with each other really well on the ice,” Thompson said. “And our sticks are always in the lanes, and we’re forcing guys to make turnovers.”
Sophomore goalie Bobby Kennedy also picked up his second shutout in a row and made key saves, including a few 3-on-1 and 2-on-1 chances the Blue Hens had.
Rowan looks to face Montclair at the Montclair Ice Area on Jan. 24 and looks to finish the season strong with just two games left.
“This season has been one of my best seasons here,” said junior defenseman Carter Wyatt. “Our chemistry with this team is just awesome, everybody loves each other.”
