Rowan’s offense put on a clinic Saturday night and Millersville, 6-1, at Hollydell Ice Arena to improve to 4-1 this season.
On Friday night, Rowan had a crushing loss against West Chester, where the Profs came back from a 6-1 deficit in the third period, scoring five goals in 10 minutes to end up losing in overtime.
But the team bounced back the very next day, putting up six against Millersville, and now has won both games against them, and ultimately the series.
Rowan coach Brien Bennett said that the team didn’t need to go back to the drawing board after the loss on Friday.
“For us, it’s just about getting back to what we do,” Bennett said. “Just get back to our process, get set, holding ourselves to our standard and making sure we play the entire game.”
Sophomore goalie Bobby Kennedy had another superb game, only letting in one goal at the beginning of the third period.
For a majority of the game, the Profs were dominating Millersville, forcing the Marauders to turn over the puck all over the ice, drawing penalties, and winning battles for the puck. And by the end of the first period, it was already 3-0 Rowan.
And by that point, the game was decided.
Senior captain and forward Nick Thomas contributed to two of the six goals Rowan scored. The last one was a breakout pass from sophomore defenseman Zander Robinson after a timeout from Rowan, which led to a breakaway and a goal for the captain.
“I think today it was just mainly stretching on the ice, getting open, moving our feet, and just communicating well,” Thomas said. “I thought we communicated pretty well in certain times of the game.”
Sophomore forward Max Findley collected two assists on the night, one of which was to the eventual player of the game, sophomore Brian Bowman.
Chemistry isn’t the only thing the team is buying into. After bouncing back from Friday’s loss, consistency is something that the team is constantly trying to work towards.
“That’s the hardest part, is just being consistent, every shift, every period,” Thomas said. “You just have to think of it as small increments in the game.”
Although the Profs haven’t suffered a regular-season loss yet, they will be put to the test this weekend.
Rowan heads back on the road for a three-game road trip as they look to face Wake Forest away at Winston-Salem Fairgrounds on Sept. 26.
